Dental Implants
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an advanced solution that acts as an artificial tooth root, securely placed into the jawbone. Once the implant is in place, it can support a variety of dental restorations, such as crowns, fixed bridges, or even a full set of dentures, effectively replacing one or more missing teeth. Made from high-quality titanium, a material known for its strength and compatibility with the human body, the implant is placed during a straightforward office procedure, which is generally no more invasive than a tooth extraction.
After an initial healing period, during which the implant integrates with the jawbone and is left undisturbed beneath the gum tissue, the implant is uncovered and connected to a small metal post. This post then serves as a secure foundation for attaching the artificial teeth.
What makes dental implants the treatment of choice?
Dental implants are like a third set of teeth. They feel much more natural and secure than traditional removable denture plates, especially if these are loose-fitting because of extensive bone loss. If several adjacent teeth are missing, a fixed bridge may be attached to dental implants as an alternative to a removable partial denture plate. Dental implants allow for the replacement of a missing tooth without having to modify adjacent teeth. Your surgeon will be happy to discuss alternatives for restoring your dental function with you.

This surgery generally takes about 60 minutes to complete. After 10 days the stitches are removed and the buried implant is allowed to heal for about five months. During this time, bone grows into the implant surface to secure it. The second stage surgery is very simple and lasts only about 30 minutes. During this stage the buried, secure implant is uncovered using a small incision in the gum tissue. A post is attached to the implant until the final prosthesis is complete which can take as little as 2 weeks.
